Rondout Valley Announces New Leadership at High School and Kerhonkson Elementary School

The Rondout Valley Central School District and Board of Education are welcoming two accomplished educational leaders with the appointments of Anna-Marissa Estep as the new principal of Rondout Valley High School and Christopher Stein as the new principal of Kerhonkson Elementary School.

Estep joins Rondout Valley from the Pine Bush Central School District, where she has been serving as the assistant principal at the High School for the last three years. During that time, she implemented restorative practices, mentored emerging teacher-leaders, and delivered professional development focused on strengthening school climate by cultivating strong relationships with students.

Previously, Estep spent more than four years at the Monticello Central School District as a Middle and High School Science teacher, Science Department instructional lead, and assistant principal. She also held Science teaching positions at the Washingtonville Central School District as well as at Orange-Ulster BOCES.

Estep holds a Master of Science in Education from Mount Saint Mary College and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from SUNY New Paltz. In addition, she holds a Certificate of Advanced Study in School Leadership from SUNY New Paltz and is working towards her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University at Albany.

Stein comes to Rondout Valley from Cairo-Durham Elementary School, where he has served as principal since 2018. During his tenure, he designed and implemented effective school systems and operational procedures, led a high-performing school leadership team, and developed and sustained high-functioning professional learning communities.

Prior to that role, he served as principal at St. Mel's Catholic Academy in Queens, a teacher and administrative intern at St. Peter’s School in Poughkeepsie, and a teacher at the Hyde Park Central School District.

Stein holds a Master of Arts in Education Leadership from The College of St. Rose, a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Plattsburgh State University, and an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts Humanities from Dutchess Community College. He also has his School Building Leader Certification and is working towards his School District Leader certification.

“It is an honor to welcome both Ms. Estep and Mr. Stein to the Rondout Valley school community,” said Superintendent Paul Spadaro. “Ms. Estep brings a strong background in instructional leadership, restorative practices, and relationship-building that will serve our High School students and staff exceptionally well. Mr. Stein’s experience fostering collaborative school cultures and building strong learning communities makes him an outstanding fit for Kerhonkson Elementary School. Both leaders are deeply committed to supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally, and we are excited for the future under their leadership.”

Both appointments were approved at the May 21 Board of Education meeting. Estep and Stein will officially assume their positions on July 1, 2026.
