The Rondout Valley Central School District Board of Education awarded eight individuals with the annual Thomas King Distinguished Service Award at its May 23 meeting. This award identifies and acknowledges the outstanding contributions put forth by our staff and establishes a tradition of excellence.
The Distinguished Service Award was created in 2010, and Thomas King, a long-time science teacher at the Junior High School, was one of the first recipients. In 2011, he unexpectedly passed away. Mr. King was well-respected by both colleagues and students, and his time at Rondout Valley was impactful for so many. Following his passing, many of his colleagues asked that the award be named after him.
Congratulations to the 2023 recipients (from left to right): Joseph Catalfomo, AnnMarie Huffman, Debra Barbiani, Robin DePew, Colleen McGarrill, Darlene Whalen, George Leblanc, and Jake Maloney. Nominators included students, colleagues, administrators, and others, all of whom presented heartfelt words at the meeting.
During its March 19 meeting, the Rondout Valley Central School District Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Paul Spadaro, Ph.D. as the District’s new superintendent of schools. He will replace Joseph Morgan, Ed.D., who is retiring this summer after six years at the helm of the District.
In an inspiring initiative, a group of Rondout Valley Central School District (RVCSD) students and staff members have taken up the mantle of advocacy through the formation of a Special Education Advocacy Committee. This dynamic and compassionate group is reshaping the landscape of support and understanding for students within the school community.
For the sixth year in a row, the Rondout Valley Central School District (RVCSD) has been honored with a “Best Communities for Music Education” designation from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. This is the seventh time that Rondout Valley has been awarded this distinction.
